Gods of the Empty Places
Story time: long ago I ran a D&D game in which a group of adventurers entered the
remains of a fallen kingdom, one where the older Sky Gods (Anubis, Ra, et al) had
been usurped by the Gods of the Empty Places (chief among whom were
Cthulhu, Dagon, and Yog-Sothoth). The Pharaoh worshipped these dark
gods, and went mad, bringing his kindom to its inevitable ruin, before taking
his own life in one last act of insanity. Now, more than a thousand years later,
only desert remains, populated by scattered nomad tribes, undead creatures,
and the bestial descendants of the inhuman troops hired by the pharaoh.
