Part 1b: At the inn...

===========================================================
Part 1b - At the inn... by Dworkin (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
OOC - For Lexy, Ares, Cyan, Morgan and Tander.

The afternoon continues, with pleasant company, fine wines and spirits, and an appreciative (and growing) audience for the two musicians.  People have come in, listened awhile, and then left to fetch their friends.
Donavon is beaming from ear to ear.  His inn is in a quiet side street, but he is doing a roaring trade this day, thanks to the two ladies with their harps.
Eventually he stops charging them and their male companions for drinks, since they are the reason he is selling so much of his stock today.  In just an hour he has sold nearly as much ale as he would in half a day normally!

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Grinning at the two ladies, Morgan sets his mug down.  "It is unfortunate that I don't have my violin with me.  I'm not nearly as skilled as you two, but I can play enough bar songs to keep this place on its feet.  Perhaps I can find one later....  Excuse me a bit.  I think I will go mingle some.  These fine folk must have some stories to tell a teller of tales and buyer of drinks!"  With a wink, Morgan stands from the table and begins to wander amongst the patrons of the bar, smiling and nodding to those that he passes.  Soon, he is surrounded by a group of locals, wildy motioning in what appears to be an entertaining story involving some dubiously endowed female and a fairly large amount of climbing, running, and looking back over his shoulder.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Tander
-----------------------------------------------------------
Otandal enjoyed the afternoon quite well, freely dealing out smiles often.  He told a few jokes in between the ladies resting their instruments, to keep the masses intertained, with what few he knew.  But, now seemed a good time for some more talking, and getting to know your fellow inn-mates.

"So..  What brings you all here?  The rumors of Amberites visiting?  Or just general wandering?"

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan plays for a long time, trading songs with Lexy.  Despite the few calls from the patrons to 'have the little dragon dance', Berd remains aloof, ignoring the patrons, prefering slumber.  Cyan, laughing, waves them off with the reply: "Dancing is beyond this little one!"
After a few hours, Cyan motions to Lexy that she would like to take a short break;  besides, she's out of brandy.  Fortuanately, no sooner than the thought is in her head than Donovan has plopped another bottle before her.  "A mind reader?" she inquires, with a smile.  Thus far, the drink she has consumed over the last few hours has done nothing for her save make her more flushed; then again, that could be due to the time playing.  Brushing back some errant strands of hair from her face, she turns to the other woman and awaits a break, politely begging off a brave offer to dance.
"I'll be heading off to Amber, soon enough," she notes to her fellow traveller.  "I wondered if you might join me.  I can see I still have a lot to learn from you, and the journey is often more interesting with companions."

Lexy smiles, setting her harp down and messaging her fingers.
"Amber, huh? Now that would be a journey to make." she says. Picking up her drink, she polishes it off.
"Why not?" She looks up at Cyan and nods.
"Your offer is kind, and I accept it. To Amber we will go." she says, smilling.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Outstanding!"  A trifle flushed, Cyan thumps the table with a palm.  Shaking her head, she pushes the powerful liquor away.  "Enough of that.  Have to be a little careful, right?  So Lexy, let me ask you this.  If you could do one thing in Amber, what would it be?"

Berd's eyes crack at that, the little dragon again at his usual perch, and he stares thoughtfully at the other girl.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Ares
-----------------------------------------------------------
Ares listens quietly to the conversation of the two ladies, as he listened quietly to their music. Looking a little disapointed as they appear to be done, he makes his way to the bar and rents a room for the evening, the two songbords having decided him on staying. For now, he decides to leave and investigate the city, to return later.
To the city

(OOC: Sorry about not being around much. RL butting in. And Cyan, to answer your prievious question, yes it was local coinage)

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Dworkin (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
The inn is becoming more crowded and noisy, eventually reaching a point where it becomes unlikely that the music of the two women would be heard anyway.  Donavon ensures that the drinks keep coming to their table, and provides a plate of sandwiches in case any of them are still hungry.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
"One thing? Only one?" asks Lexy, shaking her head.
"I've heard so much about that place. There sounds to be a song hidden in every road, around very corner." She looks thoughtful for a few moments, then finaly looks up.
"The palace. I would want to see the palace." she says at last.
"Yes, that is the centre of it all. Where everything begins and ends." she says thoughtfully.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Don't believe that."  Cyan leans forward.  "Everything out here is just as important as that palace.  Me, you, Donovan at the bar...."  Leaning back, she laughs.  "Exaggerated sense of importance over there.  Sure, they have the power, but they'd be awfully lonely without us out here."

Then she nods, agreeing.  "But it would be nice to see the palace, walk around, study the architecture, go through the library...."  Suddenly, Cyan glances at Lexy, an appraising look in her eyes.  "I bet you'd love the library."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy nods, and strums a happy sounding chord.
"If it's all they say it is, then yes, I would love it." she replies, reaching over and taking a sandwich.
"Have you been there before?" she asks right before taking a huge bite of the sandwich.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan grabs a large sandwich, and takes an equally large bite.  For an instant, she resembles a chipmunk, before chewing it up and swallowing.  Grinning, she takes another, more sedate bite, and holds the rest up to her shoulder.  It's gone in an instant.  Berd strikes like a snake, there and back, and the sandwich simply disappears.

"No!"  Still smiling, Cyan hooks another sandwich from the tray, and begins to eat, every now and then offer a smaller bite from it to Berd, heedless of Dragon Germs.  "This will be my first time there.  But it's been long coming."  This last said with a glare at the little beast.  He glances at her innocently, tail snaking around the other side of her head to tickle her ear.  When she glares in that direction the rest of her sandwich disappears again.

The twinkle in her eye betrays the fact that it's an old game.  "How do you travel, normally?  By ship?  Have you not gone all about the...ah...'golden circle'?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy watches the little dragon and grins. It looks like an old game to them, but it's new and amusing too her. For a second, she wishes she had a pet, but quickly dismisses that notion, where would she keep one? Poor thing would probably be neglected while she's lost pouring over some book.
"Well, around here, I use whatever method is available, though in the end, my on two feet are best. As for travel to other places, there are some established roads." (OOC: Er... I'm guessing there is. If not, let me know, GM.)
"How about you? Where do you hail from?" she asks.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Oh, a long ways away.  So far the names of the kingdoms would have no meaning here.  Suffice to say I've been wandering for a while.  Somehow my guide always gets pulled off course."  She glared at the guide in question, who affected a bored look and stared off into space.  "So I've been around some, but nowhere near close to one of the princes.".

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy arches an eyebrow at Cyan's elusive answer, but doesn't say anything. Instead, her gaze falls on the small dragon. Obiously it is more then it appears. Size matters not, indeed.
"So, why are you making your way to Amber?" she asks, absently strumming the harp. Some simple, mindless tune.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Amber...."  Cyan gazes off into space for a moment, listening to Lexy's tune.  "Well, I've always heard of it, of course, in legends and the like.  And, frankly, there is some evidence that I may be related to someone living there."  Shrugging, she tastes another sandwich.  Not bad.  "Besides, I want to see the city of dreams, Tir Na'Nog (sp)...I would love to walk in the enchantment there.  And then, as you said, the city under the waves.  There is so much to see, so much to experience."

With a snort, Berd gives his opinion.  Cyan shakes her head.  "I fear Berd thinks little of Amber."

OOC - I know - odd she admits this!  Frankly, saying someone is related to her from Amber is the same as saying you're related to someone in London - it doesn't have to mean the royal family....

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
*Laughing loudly and staggering under good natured blows, Morgan staggers drunkenly back to the table where he, for the lack of a better word, flops down into a chair.  He leans over and grins roguishly at Berd for a moment, mumbling something under his breath and offering the remainder of his mug to the little beastie.

The drunken grin suddenly fades from his face as he pushes back his hair and winks at the two ladies.  "Now then....  Much better.  I hate not knowing what is going on.  It seems that it is Prince Bleys here in town...to sign a contract over copper and iron.  This shadow seems to have more than its share of both, and the deal shall be struck this night.  If either of you two ladies would care to lay eyes on his Highness or the local king, tomorrow morning, there is to be a procession down to the harbor.  Or...well, no....  I doubt anyone would want to try that...."  Grinning again at Berd, he raises an eyebrow and leans back in his chair a bit.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Berd sniffs at the ale in distaste.  Reaching out one clawed foot, he grips it and thuds it down on the table.  Cyan's finger flicks and takes a drop out of the air that was heading for her shirt.  Slowly the little dragon ambles down her arm to coil around the mug.  His head disappears into it, and slurping noises come forth.

Cyan nods with interest as Moran speaks, though her eyes crinkle slightly at the "shadow" comment.  "I would like to see they King, yes.  And, Sir Morgan, you have piqued my curiousity with your aluding to another possibility, something to 'try'.  Perhaps you could speak plainly about this activity you had in mind?"  She cocks one eyebrow quizzically, eyes shining like amythests in the dim light.

Beside her, Berd belches a champagne scented gust, and waddles back up her arm to her shoulder, leaving the mug behind.

Winking to Cyan, Morgan looks around a bit.  "Well, lady, I've never really been one for big parades and such. I was thinking we might try to see about getting into the dinner this evening.  You two are talented musicians, and I can play a bit when needed.  There might be a need for such this night...or perhaps the walls aren't too tall."  Chuckling a bit, Morgan continues.  "Life really is a bit short to miss out on the 'big' things, eh?  It's only an idea, mind you, but still, it's when security is often at its tightest that it is easiest to get around."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Well well...

Cyan leans forward, eyes glittering like rubies in the flickering firelight.  "Tell me more."  Suddenly she's intrigued.  The possibility of sneaking into the dinner, either as musicians or, perhaps, over the wall....  "When will this dinner take place?  Do we have time to enter, as musicians?  What say you, Lexy?"

Berd's eyes open.  He looks moderatly alarmed, and shoots a fulminating look at Morgan.

"Sounds to me like you are talking about... fracturing a law or ten? Count me in." she says, chuckling softly. She grabs a sandwhich nad munches on it as the three talk.

"As long as it doesn't involve anyone getting killed, I'd love to slip into that place."  Cyan looks at Lexy and nods.  "So.  What, exactly, is the plan?  I assume, since you suggested the idea, you have one?"

Berd groans and buries his snout in his crossed forelegs.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Well, now that you mention it...no...I don't have a clue as to how we can get in there.  That's never really interested me before, though.  I'd say that such fun should be arranged and all.  And...well...while we are trying to get 'officially' invited...we can be laying out our plans for a more unconventional invitation."  Morgan grins.  "I'll need to go 'get' a violin, though.  It'd be hard to play the part of a musician with no music.  And I've been told that my singing voice sounds slightly nicer than a shipwreck.  I think I was even accused of causing one once.  The nerve!"  With another wink, Morgan starts to head to his room.  "Feel free to think on it, ladies.  I shall return momentarily."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Mmmmph."  Cyan glances over at Lexy as Morgan disappears.  "Long on guts, short on ideas.  Well, can't be helped.  Let's see.  I don't even know where this thing is going to be held, so we have to wait until he comes back.  I suppose we could just show up and offer our services?  I mean, why not?  I'm certain there are cursed few in this city as good as you or I on the harp.  I have no idea about Morgan's skill-"  Berd makes another rude noise.  Cyan ignores him. "-but let's assume he's decent enough."

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis

Lexy laughs, watching Morgan leave.
"Methinks perhaps someone wants in the castle more then he lets on." she says, still chuckling slightly.
"Not that I mind of course. At worse, I suppose we could always hop the wall or something..." she says, picking the harp back up.
"Should have known he didn't have a plan." she says, starting to pick out a tune once more.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Tander
-----------------------------------------------------------
Otandal laughed quietly, to himself mostly.  The thought of three people simply walking up to the entrance to the dinner, and asking to help with entertainment was bound to bring no end to the laughter of the guards!  Otandal could have a bit of fun with these people.

"Well why don't you just tell them that you're Prince Bleys's Niece.  They'd be honor-bound to let you in!" The subtle hints of mockery were all too evident on his voice, and mannerisms as he broke into another bout of laughter.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Berd opens an eye, looks Tander over with utmost scorn, then goes back to sleep.
Cyan turns from her talk with Lexy to regard the cackling man with black opal eyes.
"A wise man smiles indulgently and offers his advice, or silence.  A fool brays mockery like an ass.  Which do I see before me?"  Smiling wolfishly, she continues.  "Perhaps we have means, sirrah, perhaps not.  But you are not part of this conversation anymore, nor this table.  Leave us."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Tander
-----------------------------------------------------------
Shaking his head, he humors the nice lady, and gets up, despite the fact that he was the first to be offered a seat at the table by it's original occupant.  "Tch.  Don't be surprised if you find yourself kicked to the curb at the dinner."

Gathering his things, he heads back up to his room for a bit of relaxation.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Morgan comes strolling back down the stairs, carrying a violin case and a cloak.  "Well ladies, I've given you all the time in the world to talk ill of me, doubt my sanity, and generally gossip.  Heh.  I'll give you that any plans may still be in their infancy, but life becomes boring if taken too carefully.  Sometimes one must simply throw caution to the winds and trust in either skill...or luck."  Taking his old seat back, Morgan smiles broadly.  "So...are the two of you still interested in making this effort, perhaps?  Or should we just order another round here?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Oh, aye."  Cyan grins.  "We have bourne the words of a mocking trader for the opportunity, and thus, it is dearly bought."  Relaxing, she begins to pack her harp.  "I assume you know where this is?  I believe I can...convince the guards to let us enter.  And, to be sure, since we bear no ill-will towards the guest, I feel no pangs of conscience for this deception, if deception one would call it."  WIth a shrug that sets Berd to an annoyed squawk, she snaps the case closed.  "Indeed, we are going in order to play, are we not?  As for your sanity, that is hardly an issue...or a concern.  The best of people are often unhinged."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy chuckles a bit, but doesn't say anything for now. She once more begins to play, looking like she is concentrating on the music, though in fact she is listening to the convesation. It's a useful skill she's picked up over the years.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Dworkin (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
As the trio of musicians prepare to leave, the door bursts open, admitting the sound of tolling bells, and the screams and yells of a confused and angry mob.  The man who enters the inn heads straight to the bar, even as others are heading out to see what's happening.  He slumps against the wooden counter, tears streaming down his face, then he grabs Donavon's arm.   "Dad!  The king's dead!  They say that the Amberite killed him and his sons, then escaped using magic!"
From outside there is a sound like a distant rumble of thunder, and more people are yelling...

Donavon looks at the trio, "I'm sorry, but it might not be safe fer furriners out there.  The old king is... was... much loved.  Yer should stay out of sight, I reckons."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy's music comes to a discordant stop, as her hands slips across the strings. She looks up in shock, her mouth working, but no sounds coming out. Finally, she seems to regain control of herself, and looks at Cyan.
"Dam Amberites. Sticking their nose where it doesn't belong again!" She says, irritated.
She looks up at Cyan, then stands up.
"Time to go. Now." she says, grabbing at Cyan's hand.
"The barkeep is right. It's not safe here for foreigners. Not safe at all." With her other hand, Lexy snatches up her harp.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Regicide..." Cyan breathes, standing.  By one of Amber?  Bleys?  From what she heard, he has always been honorable.  Is it possible?
Lexy gripping her arm shakes her from her thoughts.  "Safe?"  Glancing around, she listens to the noises outside.  I don't want to have to kill anyone who tries to accuse me she worries.  Perhaps this girl will be able to help.

"Where, then, would you suggest?  Perhaps we might try to get to the bottom of this ourselves...I can hardly believe-"  The rest of her sentence cuts off with a strangled grunt as Berd tightens his tail around her neck.  Irritated, she peels it loose, than nods to Lexy.

"You're right, of course.  Where?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy looks around for a few moments.
"The inn probably isn't that safe. It's a logical place to look for outsiders. Especially if word of our playing has gotten around. We might make very tempting targets. And the mood of the crowd outside is dark. Right now, we'll get up to your room. It's easier to keep things out there." She looks around again.
"Grab your things, and we'll go." She looks up at the innkeeper.
"If there is any trouble, I'm sure that the innkeeper will warn us." she says, tossing a large local coin in his direction.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"I have them," Cyan notes.  "So, we need to stay locked in our room?  Best if it has a window, then," she laughs somewhat wildly while trotting up the stairs.  "Sir Morgan!  If you wish, you may join us!"

Quickly determining which room is hers, she pops open the door and heads in.  "Let's see."  As Lexy comes in behind her (ooc - and Morgan, if he chooses to join us), she closes the door.  Berd flies over to the desk and begins warbling, indicating a large, heavy padlock that will fit the stout bar in the corner.

"Well supplied, these rooms," Cyan notes, grabbing the bar and lock, and settling them into place.  "I hope there is similar foodstuffs availible...."

The little dragon gives her a sour look.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy makes her way to the bed and sits on it, looking calm and composed.
"Well, I'm not too worried." she says, eyeing the bar and padlock, then looking back at Cyan. Then at Berd. Intersting indeed.
"Food isn't that much of a problem." she says.
"I don't think an angry mob is going to break down the door. This is just a precautionary measure. But if we need to make a quick escape..." she looks squarely at the dragon.
"Can he take us all with him, or does it just work for you?" she asks.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Berd rolls on his back, scratching his belly innocently, as Cyan eyes Lexy with a sapphire stare.  "If we have room to move, he can take us with him.  Unfortunately, an angry mob might show up wherever we go, and we don't 'move' quickly enough to lose them.  I hope, because you're asking, you know what I mean?"  Glancing at Berd, her gaze softens.

"No, if it comes down to it, we have quicker means of leaving.  Just stay close, and I can guarantee you will come with me."  Her smile is tight and razor edged.  Quickly she loosens her blade in it's sheath, pulls on her thin gloves, and moves to the window.  Opening the shutters a thumbsbreadth, Cyan glances out onto the street.  "Someone move the bed in front of the door.  A half second could be enough to save us."

OOC - what sort of buildings are there around here?  How close are we to the roofs?

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy nods, still eyeing Berd.
"Yes, I know the theory behind moving through Shadow." she reveals quietly.
"I've always wondered what it was like. To be able to go where you will, and do what you want..." she trails off, her eyes taking a far away look. Then, she snaps back to reality.
"But that isn't important right now. I think we are safe here, for the time being. Running may draw attention to ourselves." she says, getting off theb ed, and slowly dragging it to the door, looking strained doing it.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Berd eyes Lexy back.  He lets out a little chirp.

Cyan continues to stare out the window.  "I agree.  I wonder, constantly, what it means to be able to do it myself.  From my own experience, following the little one, it sometimes isn't all it's said to be."  She stares at Berd hard for a moment, the looks back out the window, the flickering light of torches playing across her face, catching in her topaz eyes.  "And nothing draws a mob like running men and women."

Berd flies over.  Wings beating like a hummingbird's, he tugs on the bed with Lexy.  When she gets it to the door, he sags on it, and looks up at her imploringly.

Lexy smiles at the dragonette, and also sits on the bed.
"Well, thanks for your help, little one." she says. She look sat him, as he looks at her. He seems to want something.
"Can you speak with him?" she asks, reaching out to try petting him.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Anyone can," Cyan answers, still looking.  "The trick is getting him to answer."  She grins suddenly.  "Trust me, he understands you.  If he's bothering to pay attention to you, he likes you."

Berd thrusts his head under Lexy's hand, thrumming a low, bass hum, surprising in such a small creature.  He croons softly as she scratches his head, turning to present the sensitive points for her fingers.

Lexy scrathces the dragonettes head, feeling the slick scales under her hand. It's interesting to say the least.
"It's nice to hear he likes me. I'd hate to think of him as an enemy." she says, scratching the sensitive parts.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"An enemy?"  Cyan considers this.  "Berd doesn't have any, I think.  He sorts the world into two groups.  Ones he likes, and ones he doesn't think about."  She grins again.  "I like the fact you're part of the first set.  Anyways, he's too lazy to have enemies.  I usually do the work when things get desperate."

Berd gives her a sour look, then a worshipful one to Lexy.

As those in the room work to secure the door, there is a tapping noise... from the window.  Tander is there, in spite of the window being some twelve feet off the ground.  He taps on the glass again, and signals for Cyan to open the window.  When she does, the first thing she notices is that he has both hands free.
"It's not safe here, there's a barn out here where we can hide, and I'm guessing you have a better escape plan than I do." he says.

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"You guess correctly," Cyan notes, opening the window.  "Get in here!"  He might be obnoxious, but she never would allow someone to die for that.  She might loosen their teeth, but...
"Get in the room," she hisses again.  "A barn is no better a place - even less defensible than here.  At least we may barricade ourselves here, giving us time to leave."
He's flying?

Berd perks up from where Lexy has stopped scratching him.  With a quiet warble, he slips through the air to land the table near Cyan, out of Tander's reach.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Tander
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Well..  You see, If people were looking for you, they'd check your rooms at the inn's.  No doubt they'd find you.  however, the barn isn't but a few yards away, and we're out of view of the street.."  At this he looks down at his legs,  which somehow have managed to reach all the way to the ground.

"And besides.  I may have a bit of difficulty getting into your room."

===========================================================
Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy looks at the man, and the walks up, poking her head out the window, looking down.
"You draw much attention to yourself, with your long legs and green skin. And by extension, you draw attention to us, shapeshifter." she says the last word like a curse.

Cyan looks at Tander rather blandly, then down at his feet.  "Interesting trick.  You simply must tell me how you do that, sometime."  She runs a hand over her forehead, not blocking her eyes.  Then Cyan, in a whisper, explains the situation as she sees it.

"However, if people were looking for me, by name, I suspect I'd be in a lot more trouble than I currently am, as a simple foreigner.  Secondly, an Inn room is a lot easier to defend than a barn.  Thirdly, we aren't exactly in death ground yet; I still have a rapid method of escape handy, and I don't particularly want to run across an open area just to get to somewhere more difficult to defend!  Fourthly, grab onto this windowsill, retract those legs, and haul your body in here!  You're attracting more attention than my name on the Inn's sign-in book ever would!  Fifthly, if there is such a word, in this sort of crisis, a barn is the first thing to go up in flames!"

"And besides...."  She leans closer, still wary in case he tries to grab her.  "I just arrived in this city.  If they know my name, which I put in no book, and my location, it's because somebody told them.  Now, are you coming in, or not?"

Tander hauls himself in through the window, his legs already shrinking rapidly to a more appropriate length.  Within a minute or so he is back to normal.
Suddenly there is a tap at the door, and Donavon's voice can be heard through the panel, "Beggin' yer pardon Sirs and Ladies, but I just came ter tell yers that I've made a tidy sum out of yer this day.  If anybody comes lookin' fer yers, like a hangin' mob or anythin', I'll tell 'em that yer've gone!"

"Thank you, Innmaster!" Cyan replies through the door, after closing the shutters again.  Lighting a single candle, she places it on the floor.  Just enough to give sight;  not enough to be visible through the shutters.
"Well, Otandal, perhaps you ought to tell us what you saw out there," she begins, sitting down on her chair, Berd perching worriedly on the back behind her.

Following the ladies up to their room, Morgan studies the stairwell carefully as well as the hall into which the rooms attach.  "Hrm.  Well, this will certainly make this trip a bit more interesting.  All this unorganized behavior is really going to get old quickly, I'm afraid."  As Cyan and Lexy question Otandal, he moves to the window and begins to look outside, muttering under his breath from time to time.

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan

Cyan glances away from Otandal to Morgan.  "Disorganized behaviour?  I suppose we could have done things differently."  She laughs.  "Next time I will remember to write 'Regicide today' into my notes...."
Lexy's shapeshifter remark catches her attention, and she glances at the other woman in surprise.

OOC - Simulpost, I think - I completely missed that last time through! :(

IC - "Lexy is correct," she says slowly.  "Such flagrant displays of power will have the mobs upon us faster than any name on a registry.  Perhaps it might be best if you used it in a more subtle way.  For example, you might wish to blend with the local populace, if you get my meaning."  She touches the skin of her own cheek.

Glancing over at Morgan, she asks, quietly, "Is there aught you can see, Sir Morgan?  I did spy neither mob nor skulker when I peered through the window myself."

"Forgive the misunderstanding, lady.  I didn't mean us.  I just truly hate...mobs.  So many people running about wildly.  Nothing good ever comes of such."  Morgan looks outside the window carefully, avoiding being seen.  "I don't see anything yet....  In a town like this, I don't imagine we are very much out of the ordinary...well, at least not enough to cause undue alarm.  Still....it might be a good idea to ready your things.  We may have to leave quickly if things do go badly."

Re: Part 1b - At the inn... by Cyan

"Hmm..." Cyan considers this, and motions to the small pack on her back as well as what she is wearing.  "I travel lightly.  I am prepared to leave at any time."  Her smile twists, slightly.  "In truth, it would hardly be the first time I've been forced to flee a village before an angry mob.  Though, frankly, the other times were due to singing the wrong song before the wrong audience."

She glances at Lexy.  "Always determine your audiences religious beliefs before singing risque tunes, eh?"

Berd groans slightly and covers his eyes with a wing at the memory.

Lexy laughs, the tension evaporating from her.
"Well, we're safe enough here. And once the crowd gets a little less rowdy, we should be able to leave." Then she smiles at Cyan.
"Yes, knowing the beliefs of the crowd is always a good thing to do... and I pack light. I'm ready to go right now, actually. I can grab anything I need along the way." she says.

From the window, the yard looks deserted, located as it is at the rear of the building.  It is unlikely that Otandal's little trick will have been seen by anybody, fortunately for everybody.
All things being equal, Donavon seems a decent enough sort, and if he says he will protect you then likely he will, to the best of his ability.  He will hold people off for as long as possible if they come looking.
One thing Morgan notices from the window, there is a trail of smoke blowing across the sky from the direction of the docks, only thin at the moment, but thickening with each passing minute.

OOC Commentary Note by the player of this character:  So sorry about the delay, sometimes I get caught up in the moment and forget that I'm supposed to post in the games I'm in..  Bad habit..

Otandal looked blankly from one person to the next, clearing his throat. "Don't be so quick to judge.  Most where I come from can extend their various appendages.  Not exactly shapeshifting, but it would be nice."  He paused just one moment, giving a slight nod, altering his posture to appear almost as an innocent child admiring some candy.  But, the moment quickly passed, and he went once more into a talkative mode, pacing a bit as he spoke.

"There wasn't a lot to see, a generally enclosed field, with a barn out back.  Out of view of the street, but even from back there you can hear the angry folks gathering.  Quite honestly, I wouldn't want to spend much more time here than I have to.  I'm no Amberite, but I don't doubt that I'd stick out like a pig among chickens.  If the pig had green skin, that is."

OOC - Since nobody else is posting....

IC - "Well.  That settles that.  We aren't leaving here easily," Cyan notes.  "Thank you, Sir Otandal, for your cautions.  We will have to keep them in mind."  She glances around the room.  Four people and one small dragon.  "This is becoming quite cramped."  Shrugging, the woman moves back to the door, placing her ear against it.  "Are there any ideas?  Truth, we could sit here for the next week if necessary, but I would rather not do that.  The rooftops are too far for me to reach from here...."

Never one to have great patience, Cyan is becoming agitated.  Berd groans again, and covers his head with both wings, forseeing disaster on the wind.

After about fifteen minutes footsteps are heard outside, and a woman's voice sounds through the door, probably one of the serving girls, "The crowd is goin' away now.  Seems to be goin' towards the docks, an' the Watch are out clearin' the streets."  Her footsteps move away down the passage again, and soon there is only silence.
The column of smoke above the city has become dense and black now, and burning fragments of some cloth are drifting down through the air.  Luckily the inn is built of stone, with a roof of ceramic tiles, as are most of the buildings in the city.  Not so the barn, the roof of which starts to smoulder as a particularly large piece of burning material drapes across it.

Scowling out at the city, Morgan seems to be lost in thought as he watches the winds carry the flaming materials about.  "I wonder where I can find out more about this assassination....and not get my neck stretched as I do it...."

Morgan stands by the window as the others discuss what might be their next move.  The barn roof is starting to scorch and smoke beneath the burning fragment of heavy cloth.  Donavon is a good man, it would be a shame if his barn burned down because of a little bad luck.
But luck, or perhaps a gust of wind, changes the innkeeper's fortunes for the better; the heavy cloth suddenly shifts and slides down the roof, leaving a patch of charred and smoking wood behind.  The cloth falls into the yard, landing on the flagstones, where it burns out a little while later.

"All right," Cyan says, standing.  "I've had about all I can take.  There aren't any mobs running around out there right now, and from what Donovan has said, the watch is out, trying to keep order.  We should go have a look, if we're planning on doing it."

She grins.  "I, for one, don't plan on letting this go by without at least witnessing the events, so that I may speak of them later.  What say you, Chronicler?  Do we venture out, and brave the storm?"

Berd crawls under the bed.

"Well, I'm in, if you ladies would care for the company.  I don't like being cooped up here any more than I have to be."  Morgan nods to Cyan and Lexy.  "I will return momentarily.  I should put away this instrument and get a cloak....just in case."  Morgan walks from the room and returns a few moments later with a dark gray hooded cloak.
"There now....  So, does anyone have any ideas that need investigating?  I am thinking we should try to find out a bit more information regarding what has happened.  But asking questions could prove to be a dangerous thing right now; it might very likely show us to be the foreigners that we are."

Lexy smiles, and begins to move the bed out of the way.
"Oh yes, I'm ready to go. Maybe that nice big thick column of smoke will bear some investigation." Turning to Morgan, she smiles.
"And don't worry about questions. Us muscians are always asking questions. Especially if we are trying to compose a song." She winks and laughs.

As the group of adventurers leave the inn, they notice that there are few people about now who are not wearing military or Watch uniforms.  The troops and watchmen seem too preoccupied though to notice the party as they walk along the side street to the junction.
From the junction the source of the smoke is obvious; a large ship is burning in the harbour, and the fragments of cloth are now seen to be pieces of the sails.  Other ships are starting to burn too, having had fragments of blazing sail fall onto their decks.  Other ships are starting to flee the harbour, trying to get clear before they too are ignited.
All in all, it could not be considered an inspiring sight...
