Part 2: Together again

===========================================================
Part 2 - Together again by Dworkin (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Ares, on his way towards the docks, sees Derek and Duncan step out of an alleyway ahead of him and start heading towards the harbour, he hurries to catch up with them, and the three men continue together through the streets where patrols of troops keep rushing past them.  As luck would have it though they encounter no problems as they walk down the street.
Near the inn, it seems that others have taken an interest in goings-on in the city, the other visitors that they met earlier are standing at the junction gazing towards the burning ship down at the docks.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan pauses, noting the three men standing roughly together.  Supressing a shout, she walks quickly over to them.
High above, Berd sits on the rooftop, scanning around with alert eyes.  Better to stay separate, Cyan noted earlier.  Scouting, and blending.

"Good sirs!  You have been out for the greater part of the night.  Have you heard or seen anything that might shed some light on this mystery?"  Cyan focuses her question on all three men.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Morgan nods at the others.  "Hello again, gentlemen.  Is it as much fun out here as it appears?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Yess, iss very bad in dhe city.  We need to go somewhere elsse.  Amber would be good I reckon.  We had encounter widh agent of Amber who wass dyink.  She asked uss to deliver her message to dhe King Random in Amber."  Duncan speaks carefully and in a low voice, so as to not be overheard as he explains what has happened to Derek and himself.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Raising an eyebrow at Duncan's comment, Morgan sighs.  "Well, you've obviously got a tale worth telling.  Perhaps we should get off the street and hear it out more plainly."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy watches on in silence, smilling slightly. Things are indeed very interesting, and where things are interesting, of course you find Amber standing in the thick of it.
"THough from my understanding, burning the ship would not actually prevent the prince from leaving..." she says.
"Could it be something else?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Derek
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Agreed. Does anybody know someplace where we can talk privately? The more I hear from the whole mess, the quicker I think we should make a brainstorm. "

Derek checks for the satchel tucked into his belt under his tunic, then shoulders his newly-bought clothing again. He turns to the others.

"Is anybody versed in the arcane arts? We may have somebody after us who is, so a few spells might be a valuable commodity..."

All through this he keeps a hooded view on his surroundings.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Hrm....  I have a few skills.  I'll keep my eyes as open as I can, but no promises.  My first response  is that we need to get off the street.  Perhaps we go back to the inn?"  Looking about, Morgan mumbles under his breath and steps out of the main street.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"It sounds like a fine idea," Cyan says quietly.  "The inn is discreet, private, and has a good master.  I suggest we return there immediately."  If the others agree, she heads in that direction, purposefully but not hurrying.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Nodding, Morgan begins working his way back to the Inn as well.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Tander
-----------------------------------------------------------
He begins to follow Morgan and Cyan back towards the Inn, shaking his head in disbelief.  "Making it to Amber is difficult enough..but talking to the King?  That'll be some trick.."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Duncan follows the others, happy to go back to the inn.  He needs to collect his blade, and his other belongings anyway.  He considers the request for sorcerous aid, waiting to see who volunteers.  He doesn't have much in the way of skills useable in this situation, but if anybody gets in their way he feels certain he can handle it.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy smiles a bit at the mention of sorcery.
"I have a skill or two I picked up along my travels. It doesn't always work, but who knows? Maybe I'll be able to do something helpful to this situation, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Right now, we should head back to the inn, and see what we can come up with. Then perhaps find the road to Amber? I do not know the way." she says, throwing a look at Berd, and wondering about the little micro dragon.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Dworkin (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Back at the inn the group collect some drinks and ask Donavon to fetch them some food, then they start to retire to Cyan's room to discuss their next move.  The innkeeper intercepts them, and offers instead the use of his own private office, here on the ground floor behind the kitchen.
"It's not much yer understand, but it's private, an' easier than runnin' up an' down the stairs all the time.  An' there's a door out ter the yard if yer feels the need ter get out in a hurry."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Nodding to the innkeep, Morgan follows him to the office.  "Many thanks, innkeeper.  We will be happy to accept your offer.  Your service is top notch without a doubt."  After entering the room and nodding the innkeep from the room with a pat on the back, Morgan begins to search the room carefully.  "Our friend seems to have our best interests at heart, but I am a bit confused as to why he is so concerned.  Let me look around a bit to make sure we're not being 'snooped' on."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Good idea," Cyan nods.  Sitting at the table, she looks at Berd.  The little dragon had returned to her shoulder as she reentered the inn, from his lookout high above.  Now he was curling up in prepartion for sleep.

"Berd, could you please, please, check outside?  Make sure there aren't a cohort of guards waiting for us, instead of an easy escape route?"  This is said in a rippling liquid language.

With a long - suffering sigh, Berd stretched, winks at the staring Lexy, and flies up to the ceiling.  Searching about, he finds a small hole to wriggle through and head's out for a peek.  If there are guards, or anything suspicious for that matter, he comes right back in.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Still looking about the office, Morgan speaks.  "So....what is the plan?  Are we Amber bound or no?  And if so, does anyone know how to get there?  It seems to me that if our friends here have a package for such an important person, time very well might be of the essence."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Dhe eassiest way would be by ship.  Which iss why we should not go by ship.  We should travel to somewhere dhat hass an overland route.  Perhapss Donavon might know where we can get horses."
Duncan has returned with his sword and other belongings, and has donned a leather vest with steel rings rivetted to it.
"Dhe harbour will be watched most closely.  Dhis cur, Beldrin"  Duncan all but spits as he says the name, "He knows we have dhe satchel, and he will know dhat iss our most likely route, and he will be lookink for uss."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Hrmm.  You definitely have a point there.  This Beldrin person....I'm going to assume that he saw it all and still lives, eh?  Unfortunate.  As for overland...hmmm.  Perhaps the innkeeper can recommend a guide, or perhaps someone else has an idea?  I've never been to Amber, I'll admit."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan dances a silver coin down her fingers impatiently, then spins it on the end of one.

"A moment, if you would?  Perhaps you might inform the rest of us just who this Beldrin is?  Some explanations appear to be in order."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Derek
-----------------------------------------------------------
Having watched the whole way back if they had picked up a physical tail, Derek relaxes slightly as they head into the back office. He waits near the door and drops the bundle of clothing beside him.

"This Beldrin fella had two local thugs catch a woman at the market. Duncan and I noticed and went to investigate. Inside the shop where they had brought the woman we surprised them as this Beldrin tried to get something from her, having already killed the shopowner and mortally injured her. When we barged in he told his thugs to kill us and vanished, maybe teleported, before we could stop him. Suffice to say they were third-rate. They said he had hired them and was called Beldrin. Our big friend here talked to the woman as she got weaker. That's what we got. That and the satchel that is to be brought to King Random..."

He pulls the satchel from underneath his tunic, but keeps it in his hand.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Her name iss..... wass Cylla.  An agent of Amber.  The pouch contains details of a plot to bring down Amber, or so she said widh her dying breadh.  I gave my word dhat I would help.  It iss up to you odhers if you will join me."
Duncan shrugs, he will go to Amber with the satchel, with or without their company.  Although he would prefer that company.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy nods, then looks at Cyan.
"Well, we where thinking of heading to Amber ourselves." she says to the two men.
"If one of you know of a more direct route, I'm all for following you." she adds, looking from man to man.
"I've always wanted to see Amber..." she says wistfully.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Hrm.  Well, the only way to get to Amber is to go to Amber.  After this, though, I would imagine anyone seen heading that way will be regarded with suspicion, if not even arrested.  Anyone interested in offering up a suggestion?  I am not familiar enough with this region to  say."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"One doesn't have to take the direct route, you know," Cyan comments.  "I wager some of us now how to slide through the worlds."  She cocks an eyebrow.  "If that's the case, it would be simple enough to take a more...circuitious path, if you get my meaning."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Duncan nods his head, "I went dhere once when I wass a very young lad.  I can't remember dhe exact way we went, but I know we didn't go near a ship.  We could buy some horsess and maybe a cart and take dhe overland route.  Widh a cart we could pretend to be traders and maybe avoid unwanted attention."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Dworkin (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Overhead the smoke seems to be thinning slightly, and the pieces of burning sail have stopped falling.  Perhaps Bleys' ship has burned out, or the fire has been extinguished.
There is a rap on the door and Donavon sticks his head into the room, "Beggin' yer pardon Ladies an' Sirs.  I jus' thought yer'd like ter know I've just 'ad the Griffins in."
"They reckons as they've got things under control fer now, but I wouldn't go outside fer a bit meself, just in case.  They said they's not restrictin' travel or ought like that, so anybody not makin' trouble should be alright, if yer has ter go somewhere."
"Yer welcome to stay as long as yer likes though.  Yer've done me a good deed terday.  Best trade I've seen in years, beggin' yer pardon."

He bows and backs out of the room again.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Derek
-----------------------------------------------------------
As Donavon disappears again, Derek sidles over to the rest of the group and leans on the table.
"'T would seem, if I read correctly, what our esteemed host just said, that the local guards will at least stop and ask travellers who want to leave the city, now. A prudent measure, but 't might hinder our further voyage considerably. Though we still have to sort out if we are going anywhere anyhow. I for once am curious about what is inside the satchel, though I am reluctant to open it here, lest it attract attention in some way. What say you?"
Derek looks at his erstwhile comrades, wondering for the first time who is real an d who just a shadow.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"The satchel is from an Amberite or one of their representatives.  From my studies, there aren't too many of them who are  skilled in magic, although with something this important, I could definitely be wrong.  The question that comes to mind is 'do we want to open it even if we can?'  If that is property of the king, it very likely would be looked upon.....poorly....if we had viewed the contents.  That being said, accidents happen and the materials inside it COULD have gotten tossed out  in a scuffle...."   Morgan lets the sentence trail off thoughtfully.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Oh, cease hinting and either open it or no!" Cyan bursts out impatiently.  "Myself, I'm for leaving it in.  It is King's Business, not ours, and you do not play about with that sort of thing."  Berd gives her an incredulous look, and a thin plume of sweet smoke rises from his nostrils.

"I say we begin to Amber immediately.  What will the guards do?  Challange us?  Certainly.  And we will simply explain who we are, and where we are from.  The pouch, we can hide in plain sight.  It's a pouch, not the head of a lord!"  Exasperated with the decision-making process, Cyan, throws up her hands and gathers up her gear.

Berd covers his eyes.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Chuckling quietly, Morgan grins at Cyan.  "Some decisions are better made as a group.  I simply did not wish to suggest that the bag should be opened without consenting the masses.  That being said, I tend to agree.  That thing is probably much safer staying shut.  As for Amber, I'm along for the ride.  I've never seen the famous city, and I'm more than curious to see if it lives up to the postcard."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"All right, then.  Cards on the table, so to speak.  Who can bring us to Amber?"
Cyan smiles thinly.  "I will, if necessary, but it will be a long walk.  My methods of travel tend to be hit and miss...can someone provide us with a quicker means?"

Berd makes a rude noise and goes back to sleep.  Looks like he'd better stoke up on rest now...

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy shakes her head, despite the curiosity burning in her to see the contents of the pouch.
"No, we shouldn't open it. Too many things can go wrong. We bring it, and hope it's good news indeed." she says.
"But how to bring it..." Lexy shakes her head and looks at the others.
"Except for established roads, I can't get anywhere near Amber. And I think the established roads are well guarded."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Perhaps I could deliver us to Amber, but I am not certain how easy the road would be.  Much like you, lady, my means of travel  are ... difficult, at best."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Hmmmph."  Cyan folds her arms, somewhat peeved.  "Derek?  Duncan?  Otandal?  Any of you?  Or do we do this the hard way?"

Berd resolutely begins to snore.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"I have no meanss of gettink dhere.  I can only follow dhe regularly travelled roads."  Duncan glances towards Ares, "You are beink very quiet my friend.  Do you have any way to travel to dhe city?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Ares
-----------------------------------------------------------
Ares leans back in his chair, folding his arms resolutely across his chest.  "Oh, I have a way of getting to Amber, my friend, but I have seen no reason to go there.  I have been before, I'm in no hurry to return."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Oh, fine, then."  Cyan gets up.  "I suppose we follow me.  I'll take care of any guards along the way, as well.  WITHOUT killing them."  Grabbing her pack (Berd gives an annoyed sqwak and falls off, righting himself and performing a surprisingly acrobatic leap to her shoulder), she moves to the door.  "Sir Donovan?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Ares
-----------------------------------------------------------
Ares also stands, "Wait!  I said I had seen no reason to go there.  For all we know that pouch might contain nothing more than blank paper.  Show me something that proves the threat, and I'll be glad to lead you to Random's throne room itself.  I'm not saying this..... Cylla?  I'm not saying she was lying, but she may have been misled herself."
"I have had problems in Amber, and might not be a welcome guest there.  That is why I'm reluctant to go back.  All I ask is that you convince me that the trip really is important enough to put my own safety on the line."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Alexandra Boisjolis
-----------------------------------------------------------
Lexy looks at the pouch in question, then to Ares. Then back to the pouch.
"Fine then. Lets see what we carry then. Lets see if it is actually worth risking out lives for." she says, looking at the others.
"And hope that is isn't protected by spells." she says, looking at the pouch again.
"But lets open it."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan frowns.  "It is King's business," she notes.  "It is not to us to question what the package is, but to bring it.  Our associates have taken an oath to deliver the package.  Is that not good enough?  The choice, of course, is yours.  But I feel that if a woman was killed for it, then it is worth it, contents or no.  That is my vote.  If you must decide by reading words, rather than by counting the cost of a life, and the word of our associates, well...."

Biting off the rest of her sentence, the red haired woman turns away, going to peer out the window.  It's clear she wishes no part of this.

Berd glances at Cyan, then at the rest of the people.  With a sigh, he flits off of the pack and over to her shoulder, curling around her neck.  She scratches his head, crooning softly to him.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
With a glance at the bag, Morgan shakes his head with a sigh.  "A woman died, of that there is little doubt.  As to what is in that bag, it could be a pile of secret documents or a dead fish.  We have no way of knowing, but knowing the way that politics works, I seriously doubt that anyone will believe that we haven't opened it.  I for one feel uncomfortable bringing something that we were  pressured into accepting into Random's presence without at least knowing what it is...even if only vaguely.  I saw we open it.  We don't need to  read through it, but hand delivering a mail bomb to the king of Amber doesn't strike me as a wonderful way to keep your head attached to your shoulders."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"You would think that the King of Amber would be aware of this fact," Cyan notes tartly.  "I assume he has measures in place to deal with such threats - I doubt he came to be King of The Most Powerful Empire Anywhere* by being less intelligent than we."

Shrugging, she continues.  "If you are going to attempt to find logical reasons to open it, you must also then consider the logical reasons NOT to open it. Sensitive documents may be inside, which may result in you all losing your heads, for example.  No, be frank and honest.  You wish to open the case to satisfy your curiousity.  I can understand such desires.  Do not, however, attempt to fool me and yourself by concealing them under one-sided arguments.  If you simply must open the case, do so.  But I have no wish to hear its contents; warn me in advance, so that I may leave."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Looking back in from the window, Morgan smiles at Cyan.  "Trust me, lady, I have no desire to ever see the 'beautiful spires of Amber.'  The whole place can burn and rot into the ground for all that I care.  I've offered to help with this because it is something to do.  King Random is surely a powerful man, and intrigues were probably mother's milk to him and his brood, but rest assured, I stick my neck into no man or woman's noose lightly.  We are simply taking the word of some strange woman who died in our arms to deliver a package that could be dangerous into the hands of a king.  Yes, sensitive documents could be inside.  On the flip side, that woman may not be dead at all or may have just been a dupe from Shadow who was used to place this "lifesaving" case into our hands.  In a perfect world, I would agree with you fully, but the only perfect thing I've ever seen was a setup."  Chuckling to himself, he continues.  "Open it or not.  It matters not to me.  They say all roads lead to Amber, but if things go badly, that also means that all roads lead out.  Does anyone else have an opinion?"

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Dhe woman iss most certainly dead.  I can vouch for dhat."  Duncan's voice is calm, dangerously calm, as he speaks.  "I promissed I would deliver dhis package to dhe King in Amber.  I will do dhis, but I need help gettink dhere.  If lookink at dhese papers iss what it takes to convince you to take me, dhen sso be it."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Rest assured, sir, that I am not questioning your words.  I believe every word that you have said.  I simply question the 'why' of it all.  You promised to deliver the package, and so it is your responsiblilty.  If you should choose that we not look at the papers, so be it.  Regardless, if you were seen, and someone lived to tell about it, I doubt seriously that we are safe here for long.  Let us look or not...and then leave here quickly.  We most likely all have targets on our backs whether  we can see them or not."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
"If you must look," Cyan bursts out, spinning back, eyes catching the light like twin rubies, "look as we travel!  We must leave, now.  These enclosed spaces are dangerous - we must remove ourselves from them as quickly as possible."  Reaching out, she swings up her small pack, almost clocking the little dragon with it.  He squwaks and jumps onto the leather, hanging on for dear life.

"Sir Duncan - I will lead you to Amber, if you wish.  The way will be long, but I am a more than able travelling companion.  All others who wish to come, may."

Glancing at Lexy, Cyan hopes the other woman will accompany them.  I could learn much from her...there are many songs, many styles of song she knows that I do not.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Ares
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Very well.... we will need some horses.  Like the rest of you I at least have no desire to stay here.  This Beldrin sounds like he has access to resources beyond our own, and if he was prepared to kill for the satchel, then it's very likely he'll come looking for it.  As Cyan has said, we can open the satchel when we reach somewhere a little safer."  Ares glances towards the barn, then he opens the external door and steps out into the yard.  In a few paces he has crossed the yard, and there he swings open the large doors.
Seven horses walk out of the barn, each of them ready saddled and harnessed.  They are remarkable animals, powerful and sleek, each of them a different colour but all having eyes of an incredible electric blue, so bright that they almost glow.
"Your plan was good Duncan, but speed is of the essence here, as has been said.  A cart would slow us down.  Horses of this breed are common where I come from, and they are fast and hardy, as well as sturdy of spirit.  A combination which will serve us well on the road."
He looks around at the others.
"Well, don't just stand there!"

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Duncan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Duncan picks up the satchel from the table, and starts to follow.  He stops in the doorway and turns back to toss a small leather pouch onto the table.  It lands heavily, with a loud clink of coinage.  Then he continues into the yard and selects a chestnut from among the horses.
He doesn't know how Ares knew they were there, or where they came from, but he will gladly use them.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan stares at the horses somewhat sceptically.  "Well.  You should have offered before I," she notes, with a hint of irony.  "We may be taking a shorter path than I expected."  Quickly, she moves out the door (her payment to the innmaster being the largess of the night, Duncan's pouch, and a handful of local coinage - while his fortune is, as he said, made for the next few weeks thanks in part to her, he did give them far more aid than was required.), and slips up onto one of the horses, with the ease of experience.

"Excellent!  My thanks, Sir Ares!"

Berd studies the creature, narrow-eyed, from his perch on the pack.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Derek
-----------------------------------------------------------
"This sounds like a workable idea and I have to admit to feeling a tad itchy to be away from this city. My thanks to you all for helping Duncan and me get on with our... quest..."

Derek chuckles a bit wrily, then tugs the satchel back into his tunic. Walking over to his stuff he reaches into his pant-pocket and withdraws a small pouch and, hefting it shortly, drops it onto the table next to the other pouches. He slings his newly-bought clothing over his shoulder and walks to the nearest riderless horse, holding out his hand to let it sniff and acknowledge him. Vaulting onto the animal's back he looks at the others still on the ground.

"Let's be off. I am for the low road and if Lady Cyan can lead us to our destination, I am willing to trust her in that."

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Morgan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Scooping up his backpack, Morgan walks to one of the horses, looking it over before swinging up into the saddle.  "Hi ho, Buzzsaw!"  He chuckles as he turns the horse towards the gate.

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Ares
-----------------------------------------------------------
"My apologies for not discussing this with you sooner Lady Cyan, but as I said, I am reluctant to return to Amber, although I do want to get away from here.  There is altogether too much tension in the air, and I don't trust the Watch to be able to contain it for long, even backed by troops."
"I had intended to just leave, but the idea of travelling at least some of the way with you appeals.  Who knows?  You may be able to persuade me to take you all the way there.  But I am risking much by showing my face in that city again.  I need to know for certain that it is that important to do so."
He swings into the saddle with the ease of one who rides regularly, and with one final look at the back of the inn, he leads the way out into the city.
"A pity though, I could have become used to the service here..... "

===========================================================
Re: Part 2 - Together again by Cyan
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cyan laughs at Morgan's comment, then turns to Ares as they ride.  "A woman is dead," she says, her voice suddenly grave.  "That, to me, indicates the seriousness of this little package.  Whether vital information, or Trojan Horse, it is certain the King will find it of use.  If the former, well, its value is obvious.  If the latter, I feel that, forewarned, King Random will be able to track the villains, and discern their knowledge.  At the least," Cyan finishes, "he will be knowledgable of the presence of a plot."

Berd raises up on his hind legs, scans the area, then leaps into the sky, flitting about in chaotic patterns and spying the road and rooftops ahead for danger.

===========================================================
